HAITI
People have been asking me what we can do to help in Haiti and I am hapopy to say that I now have a very positive answer to that question. It comes from Rob and Kelli Nelson (former missionaries to Haiiti) who head up Island Impact Ministries in the neighboring Dominican Republic.
In the near future there will be scope to go down and help people rebuild their lives, so if you don’t have a passport, you should get one. You could also start saving money so that you’re prepared, but if you’re ready to act right now, here’s the word I got from Rob Nelson today -
By now you are well aware of the dire situation in the island country of Haiti. Thousands of lives are lost, thousands more are injured and in critical need of medical aid, food, water and housing.
Our plan is to mobilize a rapid response mobile medical team from our mission in the Dominican Republic to Haiti. Our team of Dominican and Haitian medical personnel are going to Haiti this weekend to bring critical medical aid and supplies to the scene of devastation in Port-au-Prince. Please pray for their safety.
Medical and Emergency Personnel Needed
Rob and Kelli leave for the Dominican Republic next Thursday and are now organizing a medical team to accompany them to Haiti shortly after their arrival. If you have medical skills and are interested in going to Haiti with us, please contact us immediately by email or call 772-232-7323. This is going to be a mission where the situation on the ground is fluid and your security is not guaranteed. Having lived in Haiti, we know the culture and the language, but these are not normal times. Please do not respond if you have health issues.
Medical Supplies Needed
We are now collecting medical supplies such as gauze pads 4×4, 3×3, 2×2, abdominal pads, Kerlex, suture material, ace bandages, 3cc syringes with needles, alcohol, peroxide, and antibiotic ointment. Please ship these medical supplies via UPS or FedEx to this address by Tuesday 1/18/10: Thank You!
